Web 2.0 video
The title of this video, "Web 2.0 ... The Machine Is Us/ing Us," by mwesch, is most interesting. The title first suggests we are the machine. We assume the power of the machine when we publish a blog. The video briefly chronicles some of the rapid advances of Web 2.0, the new collaborative, user driven, social media of the 21st century. It shows how anyone can easily create and share any amount of information or any new ideas. Ironically, the title also suggests something not shown in the video. Perhaps the machine is using us. How much time and energy is spent in service of the social media? How much direct human contact is avoided or displaced by web posting?

The ability to hide behind a pseudo name can cause a problem for some people. For others it opens a world where they have the ability to express their feelings with the comfort of anonymity. Part of our obligation as teachers it to help students discover a balance in real and virtual worlds.
